You can use different breathing techniques for different goals. One well-researched technique is diaphragmatic breathing, which makes your exhale longer than your inhale and sends the body into a parasympathetic state that reduces blood pressure and cortisol levels.
The box breath is another great exercise for beginners, as it slows the respiratory rate and gets you used to breathing less. It’s also easy to do and involves counting as you inhale and matching that number when you exhale.
