Vijay Times
Gulbarga, October 26, 2005

Libraries are knowledge centers and people should develop reading habit to gain knowledge, opined professor of Gulbarga University Jayashri Dande.

Speaking at the valedictory function of Akshara Prathishtana here on Tuesday, she said that education should not be aimed at the sole intention of getting employment but to educate oneself. She regretted that student community is losing interest in reading and called upon women to teach the importance of books to their children.

Speaking about the Akshara Prathishtana scheme, she said that such schemes certainly help people of all ages, particularly women, as it is meant for them. However, she regretted that several people are utilising the welfare schemes with an objective to make money. Participants who have taken training in mobile library management also shared their opinion and expressed happiness over the training. Books and other study materials were also distributed to trainers.

The director of the programmes of. Akshara Foundation, Vijay Kulkarni, District Coordinator of the Akshara Foundation, Dandin and several trainees were also present on the occasion.
